OPENING DAY 2026
Wednesday, May 6th

Interesting...

Hello Captains,

I wanted to share one additional (and important) piece of information with you.

At the end of 2025, the WSGA staff visited Kettle Hills to complete a long-overdue handicap, slope, and course rating review. This process hadn’t been done in over 12 years, and with the physical changes we’ve made to the course over that time, it was very much needed.

Because we have several thousand league rounds recorded in Golf League Guru, Matt was able to upload that data, create a spreadsheet, and help us adjust the stroke allocations accordingly. As a result, strokes will now fall on different holes than they have in the past.

How we approached the changes:

  1. We reviewed score differentials from low-, mid-, and high-handicap players to identify where the largest gaps existed.
  2. Using that data as a starting point, our professional team applied course knowledge, personal on-course experience, and USGA World Handicap recommendations to finalize the updates.
  3. Remember, handicap allocations are based on the difference in playability between a low to high handicapper. The #1 handicap hole is not necessarily the most difficult hole, it is the hole where we see the biggest score differential between low, mid and high players. Perfect example…#9 on the Rolling is no longer the #1 handicap. Since the pond was moved, it plays easier for everyone and is now the 3rd allocation hole behind #7 & #3.

What this means for you and your players:

  1. If you use software other than GLG, you’ll want to update the stroke allocations in your system. We are sharing these updates with the WSGA, USGA, and GLG, so those platforms should reflect the changes within the next week or two.
  2. Players who closely track stroke allocations may notice differences in places where they are used to giving or receiving strokes.
  3. We still have a limited number of older physical scorecards to use before the new ones arrive. Any printed GLG league scorecards will show the correct dots, but the physical cards may be temporarily inaccurate until the new batch is in circulation.

Overall, this is primarily informational, and there’s very little action required on your end—unless you use your own software. We’d simply ask that you help make your players aware that stroke allocations have been updated.

Once I receive digital copies of the new scorecards, I’m happy to share them with you if they’re helpful for software updates.

Thank you, and please feel free to reach out with any questions.

Wednesday is our annual scramble and year-end banquet. The posted time all year has been 4:45, but I would like us to be hitting by 4:45 which means we need to head to the tee boxes by 4:30 which means you should be to your carts no later than 4:20. Buffet banquet, trophies and door prizes follow in the downstair bar.

The round is a 4-man best ball. Everyone tees off, you pick the best one and all hit from there. You will keep score for your group and a winner will be determined based on your group handicap. Pairings are based on standings. 1st place and 16th place form a team. 2nd and 15th form a team, and so on.

If you need a sub, know you will not be able to play, or have any changes to your team PLEASE let me know ahead of time. If you need a sub, PLEASE let dibs go to the players on 3-man teams who are out of rotation. Just shoot me emails and I'll keep everything straight and update the pairings page with new info.
